When it comes to a learning management system it can be difficult to manage especially if you don't know what exactly to do. When I first started, I wasn't sure what to do, I was stuck figuring out how to upload assignments and announcements. What helped me was having different resources that guided me through the LMS.
First when building my LMS I was able to customize to my liking and make it more welcoming for the students. I used Google Classroom, so after watching videos was easy to navigate, especially for new teachers. My lesson focused primarily on the topic of plants for second graders, and it was interesting to learn that I can input many different things into the LMS. For the instruction portion I decided to make an interactive PowerPoint using Pear Deck which is great to keep the students engaged during the lesson. Then for the assignment I ended up making a fill in the blank on Canvas so the kids can be more interactive with their assignments and incorporate technology into their learning as well. What I learned is that the more interactive something is the better for the kids and the more they grasp the information being told to them. One last thing I included was an exit ticket but, in this case, I called it a challenge, which was to create of a video of themselves labeling the different parts of a plant as well as giving me their function. This will allow students to also have a hands-on experience as well as continue to learn about plants from the comfort of their own home.
One thing that I recommend to future teachers is using a lesson plan to plan what they want to include in their LMS before imputing it into their LMS. Also don't be afraid to experiment with the different things located in google classroom, that's the only way someone can learn. One thing I did was trial and error with the assignments and announcements I would post on google classroom making sure they would post what I wanted and especially since you could also have them post at certain times.
The one way that I will continue my journey with the LMS is by making sure I still continue to use the Google Classroom I created and continue to input the different assignments I make throughout my academic journey.
