Apps within a LMS

What is a LMS? An LMS is a learning management system that can be as interactive as you make it for your students. An example would be google classroom where teachers can upload all assignments and resources on to, so all students can have access to. Inside a learning management system teachers can use interactive apps to make it fun for students to learn, here are a couple of ones that could be beneficial for students.

One that is my absolute favorite would have to be Canva. At this point I should sponsor Canva with how much I talk about it any chance I get. It provides teachers with access to make worksheets, PowerPoints, infographics and more. Within the Canva app students are able to draw on those worksheets, as well as create their own visual learning tool. This is great for visual learners; they are able to add images to their creations and they can even change the language if needed. This app doesn’t need much instruction since it guides you through everything once you create a profile.

This website is something that I barely learned about, it’s called DogoNews.com. This site is perfect for wanting to show news to students. The way this works is you click on a topic and there’s a couple to choose from. Once you do you’ll be taken to different news of the day. The news article will be filled with images, text and videos, this is great for those learners that don’t just learn visually but need some form of audio as well. I’d love to use this as a morning activity, have the leader of the day choose a topic and choose from the number of headlines shown. This is to show students how important staying informed is and that news doesn’t always have to be boring but can be fun and very informative.

The last app that would be a great addition to a learning management system is storyline online. This is a website that you have a number of books and reader to choose from and they read a book to the students. This is great for when you have a substitute in your class and you need them to read to the kids, they have an option to choose from. The great feature about this is that under each book comes with the activity guides that is a great addition for teachers. Another great feature on this website is that the videos play on YouTube so there is an option for children to read the subtitles in a different language if needed.

These three apps are to be used inside the LMS and are great for elementary students who need more visuals in the classroom or even those diverse learners. Its always great to incorporate these apps into your classroom to create a more fun, inclusive learning environment. I know personally as a future educator in the works, I will try to make my classroom as interactive as possible to give an equal learning experience to every student.
